TT 2013: 'It's not just me and Dunlop' says McGuinness

After a week of practice severely disrupted by inclement weather, Morecambe's John McGuinness posted a lap of 130.106mph on Saturday to firmly put himself in the picture for Sunday's Superbike race, the first solo race of the 2013 Isle of Man TT Races.

The 19-times TT winner wasn't able to get out on his Honda TT Legends Superbike for the first time until Thursday evening when he topped the leaderboard on 129.323mph and although he was pushed back to second by team-mate Michael Dunlop on Saturday morning, he's in confident mood on the eve of the race.

McGuinness has also declared himself happy with all of his other machinery, a lap of 124.180mph on the 600cc HM Plant/Padgetts Honda placing him second overall in the Supersport class and 124.025mph on the identically-liveried 1000cc Superstock Honda good enough for sixth overall on that particular leaderboard. Saturday afternoon also saw him lap unofficially over 107mph on the Mugen Sinden Honda to go second fastest for the TT Zero race for electric bikes.

Speaking late on Saturday afternoon, a satisfied McGuinness said: “Everything’s good and I’m ready to race so I’m happy enough. It’s been a bit hit and miss with the weather this week and I’ve never known a week like it in all the time I’ve been coming here but the dry track time we’ve got towards the end of the week has been a blessing.

“I know the Superbike inside out and the prospects for the race are pretty good. I haven’t had any proper, clear laps so there’s definitely more to come from me and whilst everyone’s talking about the race being me against Michael, we’ll see a lot more from a few of the other riders, notably Cameron and Guy. At the end of the day, all I can do is what I normally do, drop the clutch, hit all my apexes and go as fast as I can.”
