The final World Superbike race and the World Supersport race at Moscow has been cancelled because of heavy rain.
The weather started to change for the worse halfway through the opening Superbike race this morning. The race was eventually won by GoldBet BMW’s Marco Melandri, with team-mate Chaz Davies in second. A Ducati made it on to the podium for the first time this season when Ayrton Badovini clinched third, with Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea finishing eleven seconds behind in fourth.
The World Supersport race did start, but was red flagged after a crash on the back straight on only the second lap involving Pata Honda’s Lorenzo Zanetti and Team Goeleven Andrea Antonelli. Yakhnich Yamaha’s Sam Lowes was leading before the race was stopped.
But the rain did not ease and the track proved to be too wet and dangerous for riders, even on wet tyres, meaning the event in Moscow ended prematurely.
