Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes will be happy to put this World Superbike race weekend at Silverstone behind him, after failing to get on the podium in both races, and on top of that having his record breaking pole lap nullified after the Superpole session red flagged and then declared wet. The Huddersfield lad has hailed his weekend difficult and is glad to see the back of the historic English circuit.

“It was a difficult weekend for us as we had a lot too lose and we weren’t able to push like the other guys. But at the end of the day we know we can be fast and unfortunately we weren’t able to showcase our true potential today, so I am looking forward to moving on to the next round and forgetting this. Silverstone has been pretty bad to me in the last few years so I am not going to miss the place,” said Sykes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“Superpole was great, we set a time that was equal to last year’s pole in the GP. It has proved that the ZX-R is working well, but it was a strange decision that the organisers made, but that didn’t affect my result today, so I am not too worried.”

All the races this afternoon were held in mixed conditions as the rain came and went throughout the day, which meant the white flags saw plenty of action. Every team decided to venture out on slick tyres and the Yorkshireman made sure that he did not fall off the bike. Even though he was off the pace of his team-mate Loris Baz, who went on to take the race two victory, Sykes is content that he has taken home some valuable points, after finishing eleventh and seventh this afternoon.

“I missed the championship by half a point last year, so I know how important these points today are. It is a small hiccup but we will move on to the next race now.”
