Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli stays in the World Superbike provisional pole spot after a very wet track meant that no rider went faster than the time set by the French rider in this morning’s second qualifying session at Magny-Cours.

Heavy rain over night meant the circuit was sodden with water and even though many racers made it out of their garages they could not improve on the lap times clocked in the first qualifying yesterday afternoon, which was held in dry conditions.

With the times remaining the same from Friday it means that Guintoli heads the timesheets with a 1'38.709, followed by championship leader, Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes, with GoldBet BMW’s Chaz Davies in a provisional front row position.

Fixi Crescent Suzuki’s Vincent Philippe, who replaces the injured Leon Camier was obviously comfortable out on his home track, as he stays in seventh. He joins Jules Cluzel in an all French line up this weekend, and the young Frenchman was unable to go faster than the 1’39.380 lap he completed yesterday and remains in fourth, with Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty rounding off the top five.

GoldBet BMW’s Marco Melandri was the fastest rider this morning with a 1’54.696, but he was sixteen seconds off the time clocked by Guintoli yesterday. Pata Honda’s Michel Fabrizio completed more laps than any other rider, a total of eighteen but he could not improve on his time and stays ninth fastest.

His team-mate Leon Haslam was one of the riders who made it out on to the circuit, and set the sixth fastest time, but was unable to better his lap and still holds the provisional twelfth place on the gird after his 1’40.202 best lap.

There was only one crash during the session, which involved Kawasaki’s stand-in rider David Salom. The World Supersport contender fell at Lycee and even though the red flag appeared he was declared OK at the track side.
