Magny-Cours WSBK: Lowes crowned World Supersport Champion

Britain's Sam Lowes has joined Cal Crutchlow and Chaz Davies as World Supersport Champion after following title rival Kenan Sofuoglu home in today's race at Magny-Cours.

The Derby rider only had to finish in 14th place to clinch his first world crown but in typical style, battled for the win with Sofuoglu and Christian Iddon on the Parkingo MV as soon as the lights went out, crossing the line behind Sofuoglu to get the job done after the race was red flagged with Iddon bagging his first podium despite crashing on the last lap.

"Sometimes it's nice to be in a battle and take your mind off the bigger picture. I enjoyed that race a lot and it was nice to see Christian (Iddon) riding well, which bodes well for next year," said Lowes.

"I'd like to say thank you to Kenan, he is a great champion and great rider. I class him as a friend now and it has been a good season so thanks to him for the fight. There are a lot of people to thank but they know who they are.

"I'm happy to celebrate the championship. This has, without a doubt, been my best season of racing and most enjoyable. It's a great feeling and now we can go to Jerez and enjoy the last race."
