Bridgestone have expanded the MotoGP tyre allocation for the rest of this season to include three front tyre options and the number available goes up by one to ten in order to halt any further disasters like the one seen in Austin where Valentino Rossi and Scott Redding, among others, managed to rip their tyres to shreds in a handful of laps.
Last weekend’s Argentine race saw the three compunds available for the first time and, following feedback from riders, the firm have decided to make it permanent.
“This change to the front slick tyre allocation will give riders greater choice at each race weekend, and will ensure that we have a tyre allocation that can manage any weather or track conditions encountered,” said boss Hiroshi Yamada.
“MotoGP machines are becoming ever more demanding on tyres, with improved lap times and a greater variety in the performance characteristics between bikes, so an increased front tyre allocation will benefit everybody.
“Following the positive experience with the expanded front slick allocation at the Argentina Grand Prix, Bridgestone proposed to offer three front slick compound options to riders for the entire MotoGP season, and the FIM and Dorna have agreed to implement this change.”
