Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi will continue to use the new YZR-M1 frame that carried him to second place at last weekend’s Jerez MotoGP round after adding in some more setup tweaks during testing on Monday.
The Doctor silenced critics with another podium in Spain, the start of the ‘ground war’ as Wayne Rainey so nearly put it, holding off a late charge from Dani Pedrosa and beating team-mate Jorge Lorenzo on a level playing field for the first time in an age.
Rossi then tested further on Monday, putting in qualifying time attacks in the morning and late in the afternoon, while working on race pace in between. He completed a total of 58 laps and was third on the timesheet.
"It was an important test because, first of all, I was quite fast and happy with my speed and pace. We worked on the electronic side, to have more power on acceleration,” said Rossi.
“We also worked on the time attack and some small chassis details in order to improve the corner entry. I carried on using the new frame and I like it more - I will continue to use that in Le Mans."
