Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea is feeling ‘frustrated’ ahead of the first World Superbike race at Donington Park – after he crashed just as he was improving his lap times at the Leicestershire circuit during qualifying.
Rea fell at the Fogarty Esses while initially setting the pace, but soon fell down the standings as his team-mate Leon Haslam, Ducati’s Davide Giugliano and Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes went faster. The Isle of Man resident shares the third row with Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes and Red Devils Roma’s Toni Elias.
“Qualifying was not ideal as I crashed during the crucial point in the session when everyone else started to go fast. We set the pace in the session but it is frustrating starting from the third row, but the good thing is the strong guys are in and around me,” said Rea, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“Tomorrow might be a difficult day because of the weather as it looks like it will be changeable, so we need to be fast on Sunday.”
