Yakhnich’s Jules Cluzel remains on provisional pole in Sepang after the second World Supersport free practice session this afternoon. Throughout the 45 minutes of track time no other rider was able to go faster than the lap set by Cluzel in the opening free practice outing - a 2’09.423, not even the Frenchman could better his own time this afternoon.
The provisional front row remained the same from FP1 with Core PTR’s Ratthapark Wilairot and Kawasaki Intermoto’s Florian Marino taking up the other top three places. Many of the riders decided to remain in their garages for the majority of the session as the weather and track heated up, but 15 minutes from the end many decided to venture out for some much needed lap rotations.
Two of the riders who attempted a last lap dash was Pata Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark and Mahi Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu, but their plans were wasted as they could not infiltrate the top three, and had to settle for fourth and fifth overall respectively.
DMC Panavto-Yamaha’s Kev Coghlan tried his best to better his 2’09.875 lap from FP1 but he couldn’t move from that sixth spot with ten minutes remaining and stayed wedged between Mahi Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu and Kawasaki Intermoto’s PJ Jacobsen, on the timesheets.
But the Scot did knock one-one hundredths of a second off his best lap time this afternoon – but Rolfo went 0.06 seconds faster to push Coghlan down to seventh. Pata Honda’s Lorenzo Zanetti and CIA Insurance Honda’s Raffaele De Rosa rounded off the top ten.
CIA Insurance Honda’s Jack Kennedy was another rider who couldn’t improve on his best lap time of 2’10.659 and stayed 12th overall. Com Plus Racing’s Fraser Rogers ended the second free practice in 20th.
