MotoGP Assen: Lorenzo finds throttle response solution

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo believes he has found a solution to the electronics problems that have been causing him problems for all of the 2014 MotoGP season.

When the fuel limit was reduced to 20 litres this season, Yamaha’s engineers found a new fuel map which allowed the bikes to keep their full power for most of the race but it made the bike more difficult to control which doesn’t suit the Spaniard’s smooth-as-glass riding style.

Yamaha tested at Barcelona after the last race and then went on to Motorland Aragon to continue the work. Lorenzo wouldn’t be drawn on exactly what they evaluated but confirmed more work was done on the electronics.

“The bike has been different this year. We finally understand that this one-litre less of the fuel tank has not been good for our bike or especially for my riding but now I think in Montmelo we find something that can solve this problem,” said Lorenzo, speaking at the track.

“We won’t be much faster but we will be more consistent and that’s why I am optimistic and looking forward to seeing what we can do on Saturday. This track suits quite well the Yamaha and I think that if things go normally, we can be close to the win.

“At Aragon, we test many different settings, something in the electronics…”
