Hodson and Poole scrap at front
The two days were very different weather wise, Saturday being damp with showers and Sunday dry. All the Open Solo and Peak Cup races saw battles at the front between Jim Hodson and Tim Poole. Saturday’s Peak Cup races went to Hodson (Kawasaki 1000), with Poole (Suzuki 1000) second and Jamie Medhurst (Kawasaki 600), third. In the Open Solo races Poole recorded a double victory aboard his Ducati 1098, the first by a slim 0.6sec advantage from Hodson. Poole took the first Peak Cup race on Sunday, pipping Hodson to the line by 0.25sec, but the tables were turned in the second race, Hodson the victor. Behind these two Medhurst had an excellent battle with Richard
Wardle on another 600cc machine, Medhurst taking third and Wardle fourth, in the first race with positions swapped in the second race. Hodson did the double, over Poole in both Open Solo races, the first being decided by 0.83sec and the second by just 0.3sec! Poole brought the smile back to his face by taking comfortable victories in both Sound of Thunder races.
Trophy success for Medhurst
Jamie Medhurst and Brendan Brown (675 Triumph) shared a win apiece in Saturday’s Formula 600 races. On Sunday they had to take second best to Richard Wardle (Yamaha) who won both, with Medhurst, second and Brown, third. However, the second race, along with the second Formula 600 race at Round two, formed the points tally towards the Curtis Milner Trophy, in memory of a racer who started his racing career at Darley Moor. With victory at Round two and his Runner Up position on Sunday, Jamie Medhurst was presented with the Trophy, and received the winner’s cheque of £250.
The Ross and Brad show
Ross Richards (Kawsaki ER650) and Brad Vicars (Suzuki SV650) spent the weekend battling it out on track, both competing in the Formula Darley and Mini Sound of Thunder races. Vicars being the victor in all races on Saturday, Richards turning the tables on him in two races on Sunday until a ‘dnf’ in the third prevented him from starting the final race. Current Champion Shane Pearson (Suzuki 750) won all four Pre98 (Up to 1300cc) races over the weekend. His brother Jamie almost repeated the feat in the Pre Injection 600 races, winning three out of four. More of the same to come in Round five of the Championship which takes place on 25 August.
