Scott Redding’s former Moto2 team MarcVDS appear to have put back their plans for a move into MotoGP and will remain in the middleweight class with Tito Rabat for another season as a shift up in class when the new electronics rules and Michelin tyres are in place would be more prudent and less expensive than moving in 2015 and then potentially changing systems a year later.
Rabat has signed a deal to remain in the team despite having offers from other teams to move into the blue riband series in 2015 and says he not only wants to win the Moto2 title but become the first person to defend it.
“I’m happy to stay with Marc VDS in 2015 for a number of reasons, but the main one is because they are as committed to winning races as I am. I have a good team of people around me and they ensure I have everything I need to win, so why would I go anywhere else,” said Rabat.
“Now everything is sorted we can focus on doing what we set out to do at the beginning of the season, which is to win races and the championship. Nobody has ever won the Moto2 World Championship and then returned the following year to defend the title, so I hope I will be the first.”
