After a bright start in Moto2 free practice and qualifying for Speed Up’s Sam Lowes, the Indianapolis MotoGP weekend took a slight turn for the worse for the track virgin as a broken clutch and then mystery vibrations put paid to any chance of a result in the Moto2 class.
Lowes had qualified in tenth place but was only three-quarters of a second off pole position. As the lights went out, a clutch problem meant it was slipping for the early laps but fortunately, for the Derby resident at least, a red flag meant his team could swap it out.
But a mystery vibration caused even more problem and forced Lowes off track, dropping him right down the order to finish one pace ahead of Gino Rea in 24th.
“It's been a strange race, before the start I was very positive, warm up went well, then in the first race start I had a clutch problem, and thanks to red flag the team was able to replace it. In the race we did not understand what happened, but the front started to vibrate, something that had never happened during the weekend. I could not ride as I wanted and the mistake was due to these vibrations,” said Lowes.
