Britain’s Scott Redding has played down reports of his almost automatic promotion to Alvaro Bautista’s factory-spec Gresini Honda RC213V as ‘a lot of talk’.
The Gloucestershire rider would appear not be as close to a deal as paddock insiders thought and he says he is just going to wait to see what happens, and to carry on getting more results like he did in Indianapolis. There has been a lot of chatter in the paddock in recent days that Fausto Gresini may switch away from Honda entirely and go for an Aprilia line-up as he is finding funding difficult.
“It’s a lot of talk at the moment. I don’t want to do another year on an Open bike, I think I deserve more to be honest but it seems a lot harder than it looks behind the scenes, harder than it can be, shall we say,” said Redding, speaking at Brno.
“I am going to sit back and see what happens. Until then, I just have to put in the results. I think the result in Indy made Honda quite happy to actually see the bike doing something a bit more than it has done.”
Redding doesn’t think a step up to a Factory class bike would take much doing as the tyres are only one compound harder and the extra power would help that.
“I don’t think there would be much to adapt to. The main thing is the tyres and I feel like I am starting to get more comfortable. OK, the Factory tyres are harder but you have power to load the tyre and the things only get better. I’ve got all the gadgets already and you only get more.”
