Reigning World Superbike Champion Jonathan topped the second day of World Superbike testing at Phillip Island but says he is targeting podiums and solid points from the first two races so he goes back to Europe in good shape.
The works Kawasaki man put in a full race run this morning at the Australian track to back up all the data collected so far and now has to decide which of the two available bikes he will use this weekend.
“It was important for me to put in an actual race run of 22 laps. It was good, we have the information now, there are some areas we can improve but going out a doing a run is different than making laps so we have learned more,” said Rea, speaking at the track.
“We have been jumping from one bike to the other as although they are built the same, they behave quite differently, so we have been making sure we get them close and we now need to make a decision as to which one to race.
“We are prepared for all conditions and whatever will be will be. We will need to be reactive and make small setup changes to cope. The bike is working well on all parts of the track. The target for me in the podium, some good points and go back to Europe in good shape. The plan for me is to survive and enjoy myself. I’m excited to get going, it feels like a long time waiting around.”
