Federico Caricasulo gained his first ever World Supersport Superpole success at Misano after a stunning lap held off reigning champion Kenan Sofuoglu and PJ Jacobsen.
Puccetti Kawasaki rider Sofuoglu tried hard in the last couple of laps to depose the Bardahl Honda man but in the end the Italian held on to take top spot with a time of 1’38.097.
Jacobsen took third for the Honda World Supersport team, making up the front row ahead of Randy Krummenacher on the other Puccetti Kawasaki.
Krummenacher will be joined on the second row by Team GoEleven’s Christian Gamarino and Gemar Balloons – Team Lorini’s Ayrton Badovini, who made it through from Superpole 1 along with Britain’s Luke Stapleford.
Stapleford went out early in the second session and was sitting sixth at one point on his Triumph, but he had to settle for tenth by the session end, just ahead of fellow Brit Gino Rea on the MV Agusta.
The remaining Britons of Kyle Smith, Stefan Hill and Kyle Ryde qualified 20th, 23rd and 33rd, respectively.
