Lausitz WSBK: Davies pleased with first day progress

Chaz Davies believes his two-day test at the Lausitzring ahead of this weekend’s World Superbike round paid dividends today as he was able to get straight on the pace without any nasty shocks

The Aruba Ducati rider tested at the German track back in July, giving him a chance to learn more about the circuit and understand where all the problematic areas are.

One of just a number of riders this weekend who have mentioned the bumps, Davies seemed relatively untroubled as he powered his Panigale to the fourth quickest time in today’s second practice session.

“It definitely is bumpy out there, that’s for sure,” he said. “I think it’s the stand out part of this track, it’s very, very difficult to find your way around the bumps. They’re inside, they’re outside, they’re in the middle – you just can’t avoid them.

“It’s tough but obviously it’s the same for everybody so it’s a matter of setting the bike up as well as possible.

“The two day test here was useful I think for the guys that did it because you do at least know where you’re going and where these bumps are.”

After ending the day fourth fastest, Davies now feels a lot more comfortable ahead of the next two days.

“It was a case of getting back into the groove this morning,” he added. “I went out and thought ‘you don’t want to do anything stupid too early so just get back into it, see how things feel’.

“Last time I rode, at a test a few weeks ago, I had a few issues with my back so the first thing was to check that out and then to just work into the day. It’s gone in progression I’m pretty happy

“At the end there it was a bit hectic, it seemed like everybody was on the bit of track that I was after, everyone was looking for somebody to follow, it was busy out there. I didn’t really get a clean lap but regardless, I’m happy with that.”
