Leon Camier believes he may have been in a positon to fight for a podium had he and the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team had not made changes to the bike before today’s World Superbike race at Magny-Cours.
Camier crossed the line in fourth place to secure a Brit 1-2-3-4 behind winner Chaz Davies and Kawasaki boys Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes at the French track.
He finished the 21-lap race nine seconds adrift of Davies, and has revealed that while he is pleased to be within spitting distance of the podium, he wonders if he could’ve been on it had they left his MV as it was.
“I’m really happy, I wasn’t expecting to be in this position at the end of the race,” he said. We made some changes for the race and to be honest I’m not that confident it was the way forward.
“I think we could’ve had the chassis a little bit better which would’ve allowed me to try and push and keep with the Kawasakis, but still we did a really good job.”
With two rounds left to run this season, Camier is putting his hopes on a podium finish at Jerez next time out, as he fears the final round at Qatar will not suit his bike.
“For us to be there is a pretty big achievement so I think we’re improving all the time,” he added.
“Jerez might not be so bad for us but Qatar will be really difficult so we’ve got to look to try and make the most of Jerez and then take what comes in Qatar, I think.”
