Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes has only been off the WorldSBK podium three times this season but says it is three times too many and know he has to start winning races this weekend at Donington Park.

Sykes is third in the championship chase but only a point behind Ducati’s Chaz Davies with Jonathan Rea some 75 points up the road. The Huddersfield man has been restricted by an intestinal problem since Aragon - from which he still isn’t 100 per cent recovered - and continues to adapt his style to the 2017 ZX-10RR.

“I’ve had a relatively slow start to the season and I had a health issue that I had in Aragon, Assen and a bit in Imola and that effected me and I feel hopefully we are able to go racing properly,” said Sykes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
 
"I had a lot of issues in my intestines which took the power from my engine and I wasn't able to eat and drink properly and that had a big knock on effect with training and riding capabilities - hopefully that is in the past. I’m not 100 per cent but I feel a lot more lively than the race in Imola.
 
"I have been close to the win a couple of times but now we have some races coming up and Donington is one of them and hopefully we can start to win. I have been off the podium three times - three times too many.
 
"Donington, I love the place but I love a lot of circuits. It is a track of two halves and as the Kawasaki has developed we are good in all sectors and consistent.  I have had to change my riding style a lot - more than I want. Now I am having to adjust and give the bike what it needs.”
