TT 2017: Pre-race stats, facts and pub ammo

With three wins in 2016, Ian Hutchinson now has a total of 14 wins to move joint fourth on the all-time winner’s list, along with Mike Hailwood. Only Joey Dunlop (26), John McGuinness (23) and Dave Molyneux (17) have won more.

Michael Dunlop added two more wins to his tally to make a total of 13. This makes him the sixth most successful rider of all time.

As a result of his NW200 injuries, McGuinness will miss his first TT since making his debut in 1996.

Hutchinson has won the same two races (Supersport 1 and Superstock) on the same day on four occasions (2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016)

Hutchinson has now won eight Supersport TT races, three more than anyone else. This includes four successive wins in 2015 and 2016.

Dunlop is the only rider to lap the Mountain Course in under 17 minutes, He did this on four occasions in 2016, on laps 1 and 2 of both the Superbike and Senior races.

Dunlop’s outright lap record for the 37.73miles is 16m53.929s.

The fastest sector times are held by Michael Dunlop (Start to Glen Helen, Glen Helen to Ballaugh and Ballaugh to Ramsey Hairpin), Steve Plater (Ramsey Hairpin to Bungalow) and Ian Hutchinson (Bungalow to Cronk ny Mona and Cronk ny Mona to Start).

All of these were set in 2016 with the exception of Steve Plater’s Ramsey Hairpin to the Bungalow time which was set in 2009 and remains untouched.

When added together, the fastest sector times give an ideal lap of 16m48.656s, 134.662mph.

Dunlop and Hutchinson became the first two riders to lap at more than 133mph whilst Peter Hickman became only the sixth rider to break the 132mph barrier.

In total, Dunlop completed five laps in excess of 133mph in 2016 with Hutchinson completing three.

For the first time since 2008, there were no new members of the 130mph Club in 2016.

Eleven riders have now lapped at more than 131mph – Dunlop, Hutchinson, McGuinness, Hickman, James Hillier, Guy Martin, Bruce Anstey, Conor Cummins, David Johnson, Dean Harrison and Michael Rutter.

18 riders have lapped at more than 130mph, the last of which is Dan Kneen at exactly 130mph.

23 riders have now lapped at more than 129mph, the last of which is Dan Stewart at 129.077mph.
 
60 riders have now lapped at more than 125mph, the last of which is Derek McGee at 125.001mph.

201 riders have now lapped at over 120mph since Steve Hislop first achieved the mark in 1989.

38 newcomers have now lapped the Mountain Course at more than 120mph. Guy Martin was the first in 2004.

A whopping 854 riders have now lapped at more than 110mph – John Williams was the first to achieve this landmark in 1976.

Despite posting his best lap 13 years ago (2002), the late David Jefferies is still the 30th fastest rider of all time.

The fastest non-English speaking rider is Horst Saiger. The Austrian set a new personal best lap of 127.126mph in 2016 and is now the 31st fastest rider of all time.

Only three riders have started more than 100 TT races – Ian Lougher, David Madsen-Mygdal and Jim Hodson.

Michael Rutter has finished 50 TT races and one more finish will see him match the total recorded by his dad, Tony.

John McGuinness has posted more podiums than anyone else with 46 followed by Joey Dunlop (40), Bruce Anstey (36) and Dave Molyneux and Ian Lougher (both 29).

Michael Dunlop has completed more racing laps at 130mph+ than any other rider with a total of 35. He’s followed by John McGuinness (33), Ian Hutchinson and Bruce Anstey (both 24) and Guy Martin and James Hillier (both 19).

McGuinness leads the way on 125mph+ laps with a total of 143. Anstey is second (111) followed by Martin (101), Dunlop (100), Hutchinson (98) and Hillier (76).

McGuinness also leads the way on 120mph+ laps with 253. Anstey (211) moved up to second in 2016 and is followed by Ian Lougher (184), Martin (178), Hutchinson (163) and Dunlop (158).

Six manufacturers have lapped at more than 130mph – BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Norton and Yamaha.

The fastest speeds for these manufacturers, and who recorded them, is as follows – 133.962mph (BMW, Michael Dunlop, 2016), 132.701mph (Honda, John McGuinness, 2015), 132.425mph (Kawasaki, Peter Hickman, 2016), 131.094mph (Suzuki, Guy Martin, 2013), 130.872mph (Norton, David Johnson, 2016) and 130.261mph (Yamaha, Dean Harrison, 2015).

Dunlop tyres have won every Senior race since 2005 and every Superbike race since 2009.

The last winners for Pirelli/Metzeler in these races were Adrian Archibald (2004 Senior) and Cameron Donald (2008 Superbike).

Dave Molyneux reclaimed the outright sidecar lap record in 2016, the first time he’s held the record since 2006.

Molyneux continues to be way clear in the total number of 110mph+ racing laps completed with 54 and is followed by John Holden (43), Conrad Harrison (37), Tim Reeves (30) and Nick Crowe (23).

A total of 25 crews have now lapped at more than 110mph – Molyneux was the first to do this in 1996.
 
175 crews have now lapped at more than 100mph – the landmark was first achieved by Dick Greasley/Mick Skeels in 1977.

Estelle Leblond is the fastest female driver (107.297mph) – she’s the only female driver to lap at more than 100mph.

Fiona Baker-Milligan is the fastest female passenger (110.672mph), which makes her the only female passenger to lap at more than 110mph.
