Unsurprisingly, reigning WorldSBK champ Jonathan Rea has topped the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Lausitzring as rain stopped play in the afternoon.
According to unofficial times, Rea was miles under the lap record but that’s because at last year’s meeting, only race one was dry and Chaz Davies set a 1’37.357. Rea put in a 1’36.6 to beat Kawasaki team-mate Tom Sykes by a tenth but it was Eugene Laverty and Lorenzo Savadori that made the biggest gains.
The Irishman ended in third on the sheets, just two-tenths down on countryman Rea with Savadori half a second further back. Davies’ Aruba Panigale split the two RSV4s as he set a 1’36.9. All the top times were set on Pirelli’s softest option rear.
Laverty found a second over his best time from yesterday and could have improved further had drizzle not turned to rain after lunch.
Davide Giugliano found himself three seconds down on Rea but that’s not a shock as he hasn’t raced the track before and is on an unfamiliar bike which even the likes of Nicky Hayden struggled to make work at the best of times.
