Peter Hickman made it two from two on Thursday when he took pole position for Saturday’s Ulster Grand Prix Supersport races after lapping at 127.333mph on the Trooper Beer/Smiths Triumph.
With the good conditions continuing, Hickman went two seconds quicker than what he had done the day before but it was again close as Dean Harrison, just had he had been in the Superstock class, pushed him the most, his lap on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki just 0.124s slower.
Hickman was again quickest out of the blocks, his first flying lap being 125.693mph, but Harrison went quicker second time around with a speed of 126.114mph. And on his third lap, the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider broke the 127mph barrier, at 127.258mph.
Bruce Anstey (Padgetts Honda) was also going well with his lap of 126.399mph briefly putting him up to second and Hickman down to third. However, the latter posted his best lap fourth time around to move back to the top of the leaderboard.
Twenty minutes into the session, the red flag was displayed but this had been shown in error and after a short delay, the riders were back out on track for the remaining ten minutes.
The top three places remained unchanged but a late lap of 126.370mph from Lee Johnston (Padgetts Honda) moved the Ulsterman up to fourth just ahead of William and Michael Dunlop, the two brothers both in the 125mph bracket despite William suffering from a damaged left scaphoid.
Conor Cummins, on the third Padgetts Honda, improved to seventh late in the session to head the third row from former British 125cc Champion Christian Elkin and Derek McGee whose best time again came from Wednesday’s session. Paul Jordan completed the top ten.
