Maverick Vinales painted a picture of pure frustration after yesterday's Austrian MotoGP as, for the second race in succession, a technical problem made it impossible for him to challenge for the win.
Vinales had got away well in the opening part of the clash before the huge crash between Johann Zarco and Franky Morbidelli brought out the red flags. On the re-start, the Spaniard's Monster Yamaha developed a slipping clutch which put paid to his hopes of a win. Excessive wheelspin did the same thing last time out at Brno.
"In the race we had a big problem with the clutch, it's two races we have problems on the bike," said Vinales, speaking at the track.
"We need to try to solve because it's difficult to fight for the championship because we lose two really good opportunities to be at the front of the championship.
"Today I felt really strong from the beginning and it is true that in the first race our bike was quite slow, I could not overtake but I was waiting until lap 15 to push really hard.
"Then in second race with this problem I thought my race was gone but then I stay on the track three or four laps and it get a little bit fresh and engage again.
I wish next weekend we were at another track. We have a lack of power here. It's difficult to fight. I try and recover everything on brakes, it's very hard to overtake with that bike.
"What we can do is wait and take our chances. Finally, we need to improve the bike."
