Almeria BSB test: Walker closes in on Byrne

GBmoto Kawasaki’s Chris Walker has upped his game on the second day of MCE British Superbike testing at Almeria, hopping into second place and closing the gap to fastest man Shane Byrne to less than a quarter of a second.

The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider set a fastest lap today of 1’36.1 with housewives’ favourite Walker 0.727s behind him. Howie Mainwaring Smart has also found a load of speed overnight and he now occupies third place on the Quattro Kawasaki, just under two-tenths behind Walker who celebrated his 42nd birthday yesterday. Or was that 43rd?

Mainwaring Smart’s lap in the afternoon session moved him ahead of James Ellison by a tenth of a second. The second GBmoto rider is a second off the pace of Byrne, with Martin Jessopp a further two tenths in arrears.

Dan Linfoot was sixth fastest on the second Quattro Kawasaki while Byrne’s team-mate Stuart Easton is seventh. BSB rookie Rhalf Lo Turco, on the SBK City Kawasaki, was eighth.
