Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari was pipped to the post on the MCE British Superbike timesheets this afternoon by Tyco Suzuki’s John Hopkins, during the second free practice session at Assen.
But the Japanese rider was quickest during the opening free practice outing, but couldn’t edge out that extra two tenths to out-pace the American, leaving the BMW man feeling a tad frustrated, as in his words he was not ‘fast enough’.
Hopkins hasn’t got a chance to fight for the BSB title, but Kiyonari definitely has one hand on the trophy after successfully making it into the Showdown. Now he has to push harder in qualifying tomorrow, so he can get a good chance of fighting for the win on Sunday.
“I’ve now got to push hard at every round and at every race to try and win the title. Today I was not fast enough, but I am happy as the other riders had tested here after Cadwell Park. I think we can improve again tomorrow,” said Kiyonari.
