Be Wiser Ducati’s Scott Redding set a new fastest-ever lap in this morning’s third Bennetts British Superbike free practice at Assen this morning, putting in a 1’35.613 to go under Jake Dixon’s record.
Redding was completely untouchable at the Circuit van Drenthe, putting in a 1’35.613 to beat Dixon’s 1’35.639 set in qualifying last year with Glenn Irwin the nearest competitor but six-tenths off the pace.
Irwin leapt up the order with his final lap, chopping a second off his time from yesterday, and deposed Oxford Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell who slips to third with a 1’36.547, almost a second slower than Redding.
Buildbase Suzuki's Luke Stapleford put his world championship track knowledge to good use, menacing the top three for a good portion of the session but settling for fourth place as the chequered flag flew, lapping at 1'36.603.
Honda's Xavi Fores, also with world stage Assen experience, grabbed fifth with his last run which pushed Stapleford's team-mate Bradley Ray down to seventh place.
McAMS Yamaha's Jason O'Halloran was eighth with Danny Buchan ninth on the FS-3 Kawasaki. Josh Brookes clawed his way into ninth from 20th on his penultimate lap but all is not well in the Australian's side of the Be Wiser garage as he trails Redding by 1.331s.
Christian Iddon completed the top ten with Andrew Irwin, Richard Cooper, Hector Barbera, Peter Hickman and Tarran Mackenzie rounding out the top 15.
