Assen BSB: Ryde takes Motostar win in Holland

Metmachex Honda’s Kyle Ryde took an easy victory in the Monster Energy Motostar race but was pushed out of an overall podium after a race long battle with fellow Red Bull Rookie rider Scott Deroue.

Dutch Racing Team’s Bryan Schouten cruised to the overall victory and with it he claimed the Dutch Moto3 Championship. Over four seconds behind Schouten was his Championship rival Thomas van Leeuwen, who managed to pull away from the clutches of Deroue and Ryde with two laps remaining.

Deroue held the advantage as the pair went on to the last lap but the reigning British 125 Champion stormed under the inside through the high speed left-hander of Ramshoek. Ryde tried to defend his line as they came into the Geert Timmer chicane but Deroue let off his brakes far later and rolled around the outside of Ryde to take the last podium spot.

South African Jordan Weaving was able to beat Joe Irving to the line and take second spot in the Motostar race but by just 0.168 of a second. FPW Racing’s Luke Hedger wasn’t able to claim the Motostar Championship as he was beaten in a sprint to the finish by Catherine Green and Tarran Mackenzie. However, with just two rounds remaining Hedger leads the championship by a convinving 47 points, meaning he must finish above 12th at Silverstone to take the crown.

Australian youngster Olly Simpson took his best finish of the year in seventh ahead of Phillip Wakefield and Scandinavian Alex Persson. Peter Sutherland rounded out the top ten on his Kinpac Racing Aprilia.
