Two-time Australian Superbike champion Josh Waters will partner James Ellison as part of Shaun Muir’s two-man Milwaukee Yamaha team in the 2013 MCE British Superbike Championship
This year Waters was victorious in ASBK for the second time and has had long-term designs on competing outside his native country. “I have always wanted to race overseas and I wanted to make the next step. I looked around at the good BSB teams, made contact with Shaun and after a little bit he came back and it went from there,” said Waters, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning at Motorcycle Live.
“I am a realist and I know I that I will have to work my butt off to be successful over here and I am prepared to do that. I started in Supersport then moved to my first year in Superbike in 2009 and was lucky enough to win. My reward from Suzuki was I was allowed to do a test in AMA and when one their riders got injured and I got a call up to do a race
"Unfortunately, I had a crash a week before and had to have three months off after being put into an induced coma. Even last year for a lot of the year I didn’t feel right, but it all worked out for me.”
Waters knows that it will be a culture shock going from sunny Australia to wet and windy Britain, but he is prepared for the change in climate. “When I got on the plane at home it was 45 degrees and when I landed here it was zero but I have dreamt of this kind of stuff for a long time and I know it is going to be hard but. I am prepared to take the challenge and I am looking forward to it.”
Former MotoGP rider and Waters’ new teammate for next year James Ellison believes that Waters will do well in the British Superbike championship. “I have heard he is quick and he has been out testing in Aragon with the World Superbike guys and apparently everyone said he was really quick. If he gets on well with the circuits over here he will be a hard challenger,” said the Cumbrian.
