Brands BSB: Bridewell ‘unconcerned’ by rivals’ testing pace

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Tommy Bridewell is not concerned by the pace shown in testing by MCE British Superbike title rivals Josh Brookes and Shane Byrne, saying they don’t know what he has got in reserve.

The Devizes rider had two good outings at Cartagena and Alcarras but encountered problems at the Donington Park test, which he squared up, and the team missed the Snetterton two-dayer. But Bridewell reckons that he is now 100 per cent ready for the opener at Brands Hatch, which starts proper on Saturday.

“We had some issues to sort out at Donington and that made the test a bit difficult for me. If you look at my times from the day they’re nowhere near what I expected them to be. But at the end of the day it’s only testing. I’d rather get the issues dealt with now at a test than at the first round,” said Bridewell, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The thing is, Josh and Shakey were both riding very well but they both clearly wanted to be top dog. As much as it is nice to come away as top dog, they’ve showed their hands quite early. By contrast, no-one knows what I’ve got. I’m not concerned at all by their times. We know what issues we had and we can work on them so we’re ready to come out fighting at Brands Hatch.

“I’m in a really good place. I think having Josh as a team-mate is going to be great. It brings a new element into the equation. But, for me, I have to concentrate on my season, no-one else’s.”
