Metzeler National Superstock 1000 front runners GBMoto have been docked 50 points by BSB stewards for running an illegal engine. The team were originally excluded from the Oulton Park round after their bikes were found to have illegal cam timing and base gasket.
After a stewards' review yesterday evening with team principal Mark Halvorsen-Smith, it was decided that due to the team's voluntary admission that their bikes had been prepared in a similar way before the Oulton Park penalty, they would be further penalised.
The judicial statement reads:
The Judicial Panel, comprising Mervyn Whyte (Chairman) and Adrian Johnstone, the MCRCB Stewards, and Dave Francis, the MSVR Judicial Clerk of the Course, met at Brands Hatch on 5 August 2011 to further consider this matter. They met with Mark Smith-Halvorsen, the GBmoto Racing Team Principal.
The Panel decided to impose additional penalties on #33 Tristan Palmer and #20 David Johnson in accordance with the MCRCB Judicial Procedures B.4.5.2.3
"forfeit a total of points no greater than those obtained from two first places even if this penalty results in a minus total of points"
Accordingly both riders were penalised 50 championship points by the Panel.
There have been no appeals against these penalties, and therefore the decision is confirmed.
