Brands BSB: Injury no issue for returning Iddon

COMEBACK kid Christian Iddon returned to action in style as he bagged a third in the second MCE British Superbike race at Brands Hatch.

After suffering a big arm wound in a crash at Knockhill which required a skin graft, the Tyco BMW rider made his racing return at the Kent track this weekend.

And he says the injury isn’t troubling him too much, and did little to slow him down as he stormed to a third place finish – although he admits it is still always on his mind.

“It doesn’t trouble me. I’d say it’s a consideration because I definitely still don’t want to be falling over on it,” he told Bikesport News. “It’s taped and everything but it still blisters in the shower, it blisters when I go cycling so it’s still not perfect.

“If it went down on tarmac it wouldn’t be ideal but no, it doesn’t affect me on the bike. The graft site that they took it from, if you’re going to talk about pain that’s where it’s at  but on the bike you don’t feel anything really.”

Iddon says he surpassed his own expectations this weekend, although his first result of eighth hadn’t been what he’d wanted.

“I came in hoping for a couple of top fives, top sixes, so I reckon eighth and third,  that’s an alright average so we’ll take that. BSB competition is that stiff, I mean back in race one there was like a twelve rider battle and there’s just no rest.

“I’m quite happy with the way I rode after being off for so long. As much as you don’t think lose any, I think a bit of sharpness goes. I think that showed a little bit in the first race I just wasn’t quite sharp.”
