Brands BSB: ‘It’s an awesome feeling to win’ – Waters

Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Waters cant quite believe that he has won his first MCE British Superbike race at a very wet Brands Hatch this afternoon. Things haven’t been going too well for the former Australian champion after a handful of lacklustre results, but he has put all the tough times behind him after taking home 25 points for his team in race two.

It was also the first time that the Tyco outfit have been on the podium all year, let alone get a race win, but Waters dazzled in the wet, and after a near perfect start blasted through the rest of the pack to clinch the race two win with a massive six second advantage.

Race one in the dry was not so great, after coming away with 14th, but all that changed in the final outing of the day in mixed and eventually wet conditions. Waters is confident racing in the rain, but it isn’t something he enjoys. He is just shocked at how well he has performed on his Suzuki today.

“I cant believe it – its amazing and I am really lucky. It is an awesome feeling to win and I never thought I would get a victory, especially after race one. But just because I have had one good result it doesn’t mean I will be thinking I will set the world on fire – my aim is the top ten,” said Waters, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“I have always had a good feeling in the wet – but it's not enjoyable. At the start of the year I was so disappointed qualifying 16th and 17th, and also I have nothing to lose in the wet, unlike Shakey and Josh Brookes."

Waters is definitely keeping himself busy, as he travels to Suzuka to take part in the 8 hour endurance race out there. He is a previous podium winner and will be racing in the Yoshimura team alongside Randy De Puniet.

The Aussie was fortunately able to do some wet weather testing on the Suzuki last week at Suzuka, but he doesn’t think that has really helped him, as the track and tyres are so different compared to the ones he  raced on and used today.

“Tomorrow morning I am flying out to Suzuka and I can go over there a race winner which is great. It is also great for Suzuki and the team, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me – especially in the bad times.

“I was lucky that I was able to go out in the rain at Suzuka during the tests last week, but the track and tyres are so different from here, so I am not sure how much the testing in the wet in Suzuka has helped here today."
