Brands BSB: Kennaugh victorious in Superstock 1000 race

Homer Racing’s Hudson Kennaugh stormed to the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 win at Brands Hatch, after out pacing WD40’s Tommy Aquino to clinch the victory.

Kennaugh did not take the lead from the opening lap, SMT Racing’s Adam Jenkinson took the charge, but it did not last for the championship leader, as he crashed on only his second lap at Paddock Hill.

Idaq Motorsport’s James East, after a strong start found himself in the front, followed by Aquino and JG Speedfit’s Joe Burns. But on lap six East had a problem with his bike and slowly began to slip down the grid to seventh, and eventually made his way into the pits.

Aquino then took the lead, and looked like he would take his first win in his rookie year in the Superstock 1000, but it turned into an American and South African battle, as the WD40 rider felt the presence of Kennaugh, who made his move on Aquino stick on lap eight, and then cruised to the victory.

Rapido Sport’s Tristian Palmer forced his way from fifth up to third, after out pacing Burns at Clearways to snatch the third and final step of the podium, with Burns and Jimmy Storrar rounding off the top five.

ILR’s Victor Cox was in a battle with Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson for sixth, with the more experienced rider, Cox coming out on top. Formwise Racing’s Luke Quigley, Four Anjels Danny Johnson and Steve Brogan rounded off the top ten. Bournemouth Kawasaki’s Kyle Wilks was on course to finish the race in eighth but crashed out on the final lap.
