Appleyard Macadam Racing's Jack Kennedy took his first win of the year in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship on a drying track, defending the attacks of Relentless Suzuki's and title challenger Alastair Seeley in the first of two races today at Brands Hatch.
Seeley from pole position took the lead into the first corner, Wilson got to second ahead of Seton Yamaha's Sam Warren. As they approached Druids it was all change as Kennedy flew to the front ahead of Seeley. The current championship leader Wilson went back to seventh drowned by the pack of riders that all attacked at the second corner.
As they started lap two Kennedy led, Oxford TAG Triumph's Paul Young pushed Seeley to third ahead of Billy Mcconnell also of Oxford TAG Triumph's followed by Warren, the third Oxford TAG rider Christian Iddon, Daniel Cooper of Smiths Gloucester Racing and then Wilson. A lap later as Warren got ahead of Seeley, Cooper also followed through before he immediately moved ahead of Warren for third.
Seeley, after having an out of the seat moment, upped his game and got back to fourth just as Wilson also moved up a position to seventh. It wasn't long till Warren again got a head of Seeley. Young made a move for first place he nearly lost the front at Druids, despite keeping it on the track he fell down the order.
Kennedy still led temporarily ahead of Warren until Seeley moved up to second. As they started the sixth lap Seeley steadily took the lead going into Paddock Hill but was closely hunted down by Kennedy and Warren for a couple of laps. Due to the conditions of the track Paddock Hill didn't always go to plan for Seeley and after having to go wide a lap later Kennedy again temporarily retook the lead for a few corners. Meanwhile Wilson was running in a lonely seventh place.
As they hit Paddock Hill yet again and now on the eighth lap Warren took advantage of them both by diving past them directly to the front, taking Kennedy with him leaving Seeley to third. As Wilson moved up to sixth ahead of Young and after saving what could have been a monstrous highside he continued on to set the fastest lap time and move up to fifth for another lonely ride.
As the riders came to the end of the penultimate lap Kennedy took the lead, but Warren lost the front on the mixed conditioned track underservedly ending his race and giving second to Seeley. Seeley was not intentionally going to settle for that and despite best efforts it was Kennedy who kept the lead as they finished the 12 lap race.
Iddon grabbed the last podium spot in the main championship, Wilson grabbed fourth which helped keep his championship lead to four points ahead of Seeley going into the final race of the season. Young took fifth followed by Cooper, McConnell, Bournemouth Kawasaki's Luke Stapleford, Josh Day of Smiths Gloucester Racing and Padgett Motorcycles Marty Nutt rounded foff the top ten.
The cup series win was taken for the second time this weekend by David Paton of Double 'M' Racing' finishing 15th overall. Bladen Electrical's Aaron Walker took second in 16th followed by Sam Hornsey of Hornsey Steels Racing in 17th for third, picking up his second podium of the weekend.
