GBmoto Kawasaki can’t quite believe that their riders made it on to the podium in the opening round of the MCE British Superbike championship at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
Team Principal Mark Smith-Halvorsen was ‘surprised’ by how well his crew performed and everything appeared to gel together. It’s the team’s first venture with the Kawasaki and with new rider’s James Ellison and Chris Walker.
In race one both Walker and Ellison made it on to the podium, finishing second and third respectively, with Ellison snatching another rostrum after crossing the finishing line in third in race two. Now GBmoto have both riders inside the top three in the overall championship standings and the team boss is still in shock.
"The form has been good and I am really happy and surprised with how things have gone. I am most happy for the lads that have built the bike and have worked so hard during testing,” said Smith-Halvorsen, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
“To get both riders on the podium in the first race and James Ellison getting another podium in race two - is just fantastic. Chris Walker is back on absolute top form, and James Ellison stepping off the Yamaha on to a Kawasaki and doing so well is great.
“We have passion, belief and drive to do well - and having a good set of people around has all helped in achieving some great results this weekend."
