Brands BSB: Setup changes pay off for Westmoreland

Buildbase BMW's James Westmoreland is one happy rider after setup changes to his bike worked out for the better, helping improve his race pace - which was evident at today's MCE British Superbike free practice sessions at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

The rider even managed to out perform his team-mate, the triple champion Ryuichi Kiyonari by one tenth of a second, finishing seventh overall after FP2. After the changes undertaken by his crew he now feels the balance of the BMW has improved significantly.

“We’ve taken some weight off the front of the bike to give it an overall better balance which has improved it in every area. We made some big changes this weekend and now we are happy with the job that we have done so far and we are in a good place, especially with our race pace," said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"After Snetterton a few areas were highlighted that we had to work on and we changed the balance of the bike quite a bit, and it is a very different motorbike from what I had ridden last year. I have probably smiled more now than I did from the whole of last year. I am really excited to see what I can do with the bike now, and if qualifying is going to be wet tomorrow like the forecasters are predicting then it should be interesting."
