Brands BSB: Showdown the aim for podium clinching Walker

GBmoto Kawasaki’s Chris Walker has had a resurgence of good form at this weekend’s MCE British Superbike round at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

In the opening race he was leading the rest of the pack for the majority of the session ending the first race in second. Now his aim is to get into the Showdown, something that has eluded him in his career so far.

In the final race Walker proved that he had the ability to compete with his team-mate James Ellison and the eventual double race winner - Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane Byrne. The veteran rider now sits third in the championship standings, leaving him ‘chuffed’.

“It has been a fantastic weekend and I came here with high expectations within myself and from testing we had a feeling that we had a good pace and I am chuffed to bits. For the team it is overwhelming to get three podiums on the first day with their first Kawasaki venture. To lead the first part of race one was fantastic too,” said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“My aim is to get in the Showdown as I haven’t managed to do that since it started in the series - so that’s what I want to do. But looking ahead James and I work well together and we have developed the bike over the winter together and now we have got bikes on the podium.

“For me the big difference is that I have been riding my own bike for the past few years, but the reality is that I was getting the same results and I had the chance to go to GBmoto and it wasn’t a chance that I wanted to waste, especially in my twilight years. Now I want to be as close to James on track every week, but overall I am really happy.”
