Cadwell BSB: ‘Extremely difficult’ weekend for Brookes

Anvil TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes clung on to his MCE British Superbike Shown spot at Cadwell Park after a tough weekend where his team couldn’t find the setup required for podium pace.

At a track where the Australian usually excels, Brookes turned the bike upside down through free practice and qualiying but wasn’t able to find any kind of advantage, so took what points he could to stay in the top six - aided by Jake Dixon crashing out of a podium spot in race two.

“We started out a little bit late on Friday morning, and it was a little bit of a rush to get out on the track.  It feels like we’ve started off on the wrong foot. The first practice wasn’t that good and then the afternoon practice looked like an improvement, but it was false impressions because all weekend we’ve been slightly off the pace and both races were extremely difficult for me,” said Brookes.

“If I knew exactly what the problem with the bike was, we would have fixed it. We went through all the different setting changes we could imagine, and I didn’t find the result that we were looking for. If you’re not getting the result you want, of course you’re not happy.”

Brookes now has three races on Silverstone’s long, flowing tarmac - which has suited the R1 in the past - to secure his Showdown spot.
