Cadwell BSB: Irwin finds silver lining in CN Racing

CN Racing's Glenn Irwin debuted with the team this weekend and despite crashing out of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship he still did nothing but to impress as it was also his first time out at the Lincolnshire circuit.

The current and twice Irish Supersport Champion has been taking part in his first full year in the British series but as always in racing you have to deal with the unexpected and only it was only a week ago that Irwin was searching for a ride, despite being a title contender.

Following an article on www.bikesportnews.com not only was Irwin contacted by CN Racing, he also received enormous generosity from the public who sent him additional funding to support his racing.  This including one gentlemen who gave a lump sum of £600. Irwin is extremely grateful to all that responded and wants to say a touching thank you to everyone for their support.

Before talking about his new team and the weekend the Carrickfergus rider is gutted about the events of the weekend that involved his ex-teammate and friend Ben Gautrey, which disappointing as it was to crash out of the race, it doesn't compare to the shocking loss.

In Monday's race Irwin had been running second in the race but unfortunately crashed out although unhurt.  This was after qualifying second whilst almost looking set to take pole as he set his fastest times in the first two sectors on his final lap before the session was abruptly ended. All this at a complex and technical track that he has never been to before; the results again demonstrate his racing ability.

Now with his 2011 season back on track and a huge grin which he called the 'Hopper grin', he said: “I am with CN Racing for the rest of season, what I've seen so far is great. I should have been pole but the red flag came out at last corner. My ideal time was not there and it was my first time racing here as well.

"This is my third team, but second permanent team.  It has not been ideal to be honest, it's not ideal chopping and changing things. Personally I believe a happy rider is a fast rider and it's nice to be familiar with your surroundings. But coming here and being able to go so well straight away especially on a the track I've never been to before. I think it is down to the great experience and professionalism of these guys.

“Graham has worked with Neil Hodgson, [John] McGuinness at the TT and North West and Corona Honda in America; some big teams. I've been trusting him. We had a chat about suspension I said what it was doing he came up with a plan to solve it. Not just that, it's everything from lunches and dinners is just done, never had it to this extent before. It's been so comfortable being here. Everybody is so welcoming, it's been easy to fit in, feels like I've been here a lot longer than two days.”

Irwin is still fighting for third place overall although the non-scoring round has made it a bit more of a challenge there are still three rounds remaining and it is clear that Irwin feels at home in his new setup. After this weekend's performance he said: 'I was riding like I can ride. This weekend definitely turned a corner.  I would like to thank CN Racing. Dwayne McCracken, he's been great and all my personal sponsors, Biker.ie and new one being www.motodex.eu.”
