Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari has a guaranteed spot in the MCE British Superbike Showdown, even after two DNF’s during yesterday’s races at Cadwell Park.
The triple champ had been on the pace all weekend, and qualified on the front row in both races – and even started from pole in the final outing of the day. Kiyonari had a technical problem in race one, which was caused by a faulty ignition unit and had to retire to the pits whilst leading the race.
The Japenese rider then high-sided coming out of the Hairpin in wet conditions in race two, leaving him a little bit battered and bruised. He was not too happy with the outcome, especially as he was fighting for a podium finish.
The rider is frustrated that he failed to come away without a single point, after being up the sharp end during all the free practice, and qualifying sessions. Kiyonari did bang his foot in the crash, but is unhurt and hopes to battle for more wins at the next round at Donington Park.
“It was so wet and slippery out on track, I hit a puddle at the hairpin and next thing I am flying over the front of the bike, and I catch my foot which hurt – thankfully I was OK and walked away. I was frustrated to have to stop in the first race too. But I am in the Showdown for sure and I will be fine to ride at Donington Park,” said Kiyonari.
