Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes stormed to a dominant MCE British Superbike race win at his local track of Cadwell Park and took the victory in style.

He led from the opening lap, and successfully kept up the pace to prevent Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes from taking the spoils.

On lap one Byrne did lead for a few seconds, only for Lowes to overtake at Charlies and he remained at the front until the chequered flag appeared. Byrne was never too far away and was able to match the pace of Lowes. Milwaukee Yamaha’s James Ellison also had a good start and was in contention for a third place finish, with Brookes in tow.

Tyco Suzuki’s PJ Jacobsen was in fifth but Halsall Racing’s Tommy Bridewell made a move at Park Corner on lap three and clawed his way to join the other four riders for a chance of a rostrum. For nine laps the front five bikes did not change, until Brookes made a move on Ellison at the hairpin to go into third.

But two laps later Ellison crashed out of fourth place at the bottom of the mountain ending his chance of clinching those all important podium credits. Bridewell moved into fourth, but the other three riders pushed ahead, leaving a two second gap between Aussie Brookes and the Devizes swearbox.

All the action was not at the front of the race, there were fights breaking out in the rest of the grid. Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Chris Walker, Samsung Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and GBmoto’s Peter Hickman were in a battle for sixth place. Veteran racer Walker was able to keep Kiyo off his back long enough to finish the race. The Japanese rider made a move on Hickman at Park corner on the penultimate lap to go seventh, with Hickman, Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Keith Farmer and Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland rounding off the top ten.

Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Barry Burrell scored his first points of the season after finishing in fourteenth and Padgett’s Honda rider Jakub Smrz came away with a point in his first ever Cadwell Park race.
