Smith Triumph’s Billy McConnell topped the Motorpoint British Supersport free practice timesheets with a 1’29.559 lap around the Cadwell Park track. The Australian rider set the fastest lap with twelve minutes of the session remaining with a 1’29.969 and was able to do one better and clocked a 1'29.559, cementing his status as the quickest rider today.

McConnell and Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson were the only riders to lap in the 1’29’s today. The Boston racer did set the pace in the first half of the practice session, but the Triumph was just too strong and Wilson could not better his time of 1’29.666.

His team-mate Alastair Seeley was hot on his heels but was four tenths of a second slower and finished the afternoon third quickest, followed by Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran. The Aussie did crash at Charles with only three minutes left of the session; he was taken to the medical centre, but was unhurt. Oxford TAG Triumph’s Richard Cooper was fifth fastest with his best lap of 1’30.637.

Appleyard Macadam Doodson rider Graeme Gowland started off the final session of the day in a positive fashion and was inside the top three times, until he crashed at Charles. Even though he was unhurt he did not restart the session and only completed five laps, but it was enough to place him sixth fastest, with Smith Triumph’s Glen Richards in seventh on the timesheets. Seton Tuning Yamaha’s Danny Buchan and Oxford TAG Triumph’s Scott Smart rounded off the top ten quickest times, with Smart clocking a 1’31.276.

The first session was blighted by rain earlier this morning, and not every rider made it out on to the track. But by the time the chequered flag appeared  O’Halloran was the fastest rider out on the circuit with a 1’37.899.

Seeley was dominating the session until the Honda rider swooped in at the last minute and went nearly a second faster than the Carrickfergus lad. Smith Triumph team-mates  McConnell and Richards clocked the third and fourth quickest times, with Wilson rounding off the top five this morning with a 1’38.687 time.
