Smiths Triumph's Billy McConnell took victory in today's opening Motorpoint British Supersport race, passing Christian Iddon at Park Corner on the brakes on the last lap and then defending to take his fourth win of the year.
Glen Richards, on the sister Smiths 765 triple, was the last podium man and he reduces the points gap on series leader Jack Kennedy to just six and a half after putting a hard move on the Mar-Train Yamaha man in the Mansfield Chicane so he crossed the line in front when half-distance was reached.
Iddon just couldn't quite keep Adelaide man McConnell behind him after going into the lead at Park on the penultimate lap as the Australian put in the exact same pass to go back in front.
Luke Mossey took fifth place ahead of Richard Cooper, Sam Warren and Pauli Pekkanen. Ben Wilson retired his Gearlink Kawasaki after running on to the grass at Coppice.
