Cadwell BSB: Struggling Westmoreland confident of bouncing back

Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland is putting his MCE British Superbike weekend at Cadwell Park firmly behind him and is now looking forward to the next round at Donington Park. The rider admitted that he struggled around the Lincolnshire track and his team can’t pin point an exact reason why the BMWs are so off the pace.

Westmoreland and team-mate Jon Kirkham are both vying for a Showdown spot with only five points separating the two Brits. The racer managed to beat his rather taller colleague in both races, but only came away with a tenth and ninth place finishes.

The rider is going to continue to push for more points, and is preparing for Donington which is a track that suits his bike, and he is confident that he can get some good results to push for that all important Showdown place.

“I was not feeling nervous this weekend, but we just need to keep pushing. We can’t pin point what the problem is, we are just struggling, this track is very similar to Oulton Park and the bike is not doing what we want and we are fighting it a lot and we shouldn’t be running around in ninth and tenth and we are not in a position to push,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the circuit.

“But it was important today that I beat Jon today and did that in both races. Before the second race it was Jacobsen that we had to watch, and now it is Bridewell so we are still a bit behind but we wont be in this position at Donington because it is a track that suits our bike.

“It is not the position we want to be in but we are confident that we won’t be battling for ninth and tenth and we are pretty confident that we can get the job done. It is going to be intense, it is going to be good and it is what we go racing for. It would be good if we had more of a comfort margin but we have to keep pushing.”
