Smiths BMW’s Peter Hickman has been up the sharp end throughout the MCE British Superbike weekend at Cadwell Park, and has been setting fast times throughout free practice, qualifying and the races.
His good form came to fruition during the final event at his local track and he ended the afternoon on the third step of the podium. In race one he just missed out on a rostrum place and crossed the line in fourth, but he went one better in race two.
In the end he was out-paced by his young team-mate, Lee Jackson who secured second place, and Hickman was happy that his garage buddy made it on to the BSB podium for the first time.
The S1000RR racer admitted that he could not match the lap times of Jackson and eventual race winner, James Ellison but did come good in the end as he knew he had the right setup which meant he wouldn’t lose any tyre life, on the SC2 front and SC0 rear compounds.
Hickman remains in showdown contention and is currently third in the overall standings on 193 points, with JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne just ahead of him.
“Cadwell Park is always a tough race and it is real hard on the bike and rider around here. It is so physical,” said Hickman at the track after race two.
“Lee was setting such a strong pace at the start and he was out front doing his own thing and I was struggling to keep up with him a bit, I could do a 26.7 to 26.9 and I couldn’t go any faster and when they did 26.4 and fives I just couldn’t go with them. The good thing with myself and the setup we could go right to the end.
“I thought I am in front of everyone I need to be in front of championship wise so I sat back. I am really happy for Lee and it is so good to see him up on the podium and fingers crossed he continues that until the end of the series.”
