Cadwell BSB: Wilson beats Seeley to maximum points

Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Wilson literally rode into the distance to take his seventh win of the season at Cadwell Park in the first Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race this weekend, making Relentless Suzuki's Alastair Seeley settle for second.

It was Seeley, Oxford TAG Triumph's Billy McConnell and Wilson who led into the first corner. Seeley looked to pull away immediately but by the second corner Wilson had moved up to third to bridge the gap. They both had a slight gap over third place that was followed by a train of riders with him. Including Seton Yamaha's Sam Warren in fourth and Jack Kennedy of Appleyard/Macadam Racing.

As they started lap two Wilson powered down on the start/finish straight to out run Seeley and take the lead.  He continued to visibly pull away to eventually win by 3.4 seconds. Further down the grid Warren had lost a couple of places behind Kennedy who was up to fourth behind McConnell with Christian Iddon of Oxford Tag Triumph in sixth.

The race seemed quite sedate for a while, gradually third to sixth became a pack of four as the others dropped off slightly and gaps started to appear. Wilson was unstoppable, he now had a gap of 1.6s on lap four at this point.

Kennedy, on lap four got ahead of McConnell who immediately had pressure from Iddon who took another place from him and then, yet again, a couple of corners later so did Warren. As McConnell regained fifth, he came into contact with Warren, fortunately both riders stayed on, but Warren did lose out slightly as Whitman also got ahead.

As they started lap six Wilson was over three seconds ahead, Seeley had a gap of his own of four seconds ahead of third, so if all went to plan the battle was purely for third place. Whitman unfortunately crashed out on lap seven and Kennedy was forced to retire.

As they started the final lap Wilson had a four second gap, Seeley just under seven; McConnell was fighting off Iddon and Warren for third place. All around the final lap it looked as though those places would stay as was, as nobody seemed quite close enough to challenge the other.

While Wilson deservedly wheelied, waved and stood on the footrests celebrating his win, Anthony Rogers of ANR TSS Racing took his debut win of the season in the cup series and 12th overall following a debut podium result at Brands Hatch the last round.

John Simpson of T3 Racing was a position behind in second, bringing an end to his five straight wins in a row; seven overall. David Paton of Double M Racing in 17th grabbed the final podium step to stand on the podium for the sixth time this season.
