Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson took the Motorpoint British Supersport win, but the race did not go the full distance as on the penultimate lap it was red flagged, and the local rider was declared the eventual winner.

On lap eleven Wilson was leading the pack with MarTrain’s Stuart Easton and Appleyard Macadam Doodson rider Graeme Gowland less than one second behind, but on Park Corner Easton made a move that stuck, but the race was stopped and because the lap was not completed the results from lap ten were final. Wilson takes home his third first place trophy of the year, with Easton and Gowland completing the rostrum.

Wilson led from the opening lap followed by team-mate Alastair Seeley, but a possible podium finish was not on the cards for the wee wizard of Carrickfergus as he crashed on lap five at Mansfield. The rider walked away but has a suspected broken rib.

Easton was never far off the pace of Wilson and closed the gap to 0.5 seconds on the Boston rider, with Smith Triumph’s Billy McConnell in third followed by Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran. Gowland soon joined the party, working his way from the mid-pack after making a mistake and going straight on at the Chicane on the first lap. Soon the Hexham rider overtook McConnell to go third and took home some valuable points.

To say the race was a crash fest was an understatement, with eight riders falling at different parts of the circuit. Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford was the first to succumb to the Lincolnshire track, with other championship contenders following suit, most notably reigning champ Smith Triumph’s Glen Richards, who crashed out uninjured at the Hairpin. Appleyard Macadam rider Bjorn Estment’s crash caused the red flag, when he collided with the safety barriers, and he has a suspected ankle injury.

McConnell narrowly missed out on a podium, as he ended the race in fourth, with O’Halloran rounding off the top five. The Oxford TAG Triumph team had two riders inside the top ten, with Richard Cooper and Scott Smart ending the race in sixth and eighth respectively, with Danny Buchan bagging seventh in only his second outing for the Seton Yamaha team. Appleyard Macadam’s Deane Browne and Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie rounded off the top ten.
