Mar-Train Yamaha new-boy Stuart Easton is back on the pace in the Supersport Pro-Test at Cartagena, after admitting he felt like a novice during his first laps back on a middle-weight machine.
Progress was stopped quite abruptly, however, for his new team-mate, Glenn Irwin, after the Northern Irishman crashed out on the first day and broke his little finger.
The Scotsman was confident he knew what to expect after a 20 lap shakedown at Kirkistown but Easton still had to change his riding style in order to adapt to the Mar-Train Yamaha.
"It's been interesting getting back into Supersport mode, especially after feeling like a novice through the first couple of laps. I've always thought my riding style was suited to a Supersport machine but after so many years on a Superbike my style has moulded into suiting a bigger bike," said Easton.
"Instead of throwing the bike in, standing it up and driving back out again like on 1000, on the 600 corner speed is crucial, so that's where I need to work hard on," said Easton, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the sun drenched circuit.
"Yesterday was all about gelling with the bike and getting the basics right. Today, I did much longer runs and we made some good progress. The team and I have worked well together instantly and I think I'm not far off the pace now, so there's a smile on my face. Hopefully Glenn will be back out on track tomorrow and as a team we can keep working towards round one."
Despite missing track time today and suffering a broken finger yesterday afternoon, fellow Mar-Train Yamaha new-boy, Glenn Irwin, is in a positive mood and feels he has instantly gelled with his new team.
"It's been great to work with the Mar-Train boys and the step up from last year is huge. Unfortunately, I got caught out in some sketchy condition yesterday afternoon but the injuries aren't serious. We missed today in order to let the aches and pains settle, but hopefully we'll be out again tomorrow morning," said Irwin.
"Today has not been a wasted day, however, as I've been able to listen to Stuarts de-briefs and from that alone I've learnt a lot. In the time we had yesterday, we made two positive changes, so I have good feeling for the future."
