Donington BSB: Hopkins doubles up as Byrne, Laverty crash

Samsung Suzuki's John Hopkins doubled up on British Superbike wins at Donington Park this afternoon and also went to the top of the championship table after contenders Shane Byrne and Michael Laverty crashed at Redgate on the first lap.

The pair were jostling for the lead but made contact and went into the kitty litter. Byrne got back on track and hauled his way back through the field to finish in eighth while Laverty also scored points, taking the chequered flag in 14th place.

Hopkins and Hill took full advantage finishing first and second and increasing their lead over the two fallers while Jon Kirkham took his second podium of the season in third after making his way past Josh Brookes and Ryuichi Kiyonari.

Kiyonari, meanwhile, had his own fight at the end of the 20 lapper as Sorrymate.com Honda's James Ellison was making a nuisance of himself. The HM Plant man just had the pace to hold off UFO spotter Ellison who bettered his eighth place in race one by one position.

Primo Kawasaki's Chris Walker was ninth and Graeme Gowland, who was second to dead last after the first-corner melee, rode is way to tenth and was first Evo bike home. Tommy Bridewell was 11th, James Westmoreland 12th and second Evo with Barry Burrell's Buildbase BMW third Evo and 13th overall. Laverty and Glen Richards completed the top 15.
