Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari could not have wished for a better MCE British Superbike weekend at Donington Park. The triple champ managed to get the better of Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne, not once but twice today, to take home maximum points and podium credits for his team.
He had already bagged his Showdown spot, but is only 27 points behind current leader, Byrne and only one point separates Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes from the Japanese rider in third.
During the final race of the day Kiyonari's lap timer on is bike failed to work, so he didn’t realise how fast he was actually going, but he didn’t want to let Byrne catch up with him, so he pushed on ahead to do the double at the historic track.
“My lap timer didn’t work and I couldn’t see every lap, so I just pushed every lap but especially on the last lap I pushed really hard. I knew Shakey would be behind me, that is why I wanted to push 100 percent, and I am now very tired,” said Kiyonari at the circuit.
“The double is great, I am more than happy with that, and I beat Josh and Shakey and they are the riders to beat. So this is a perfect day for me.”
